Test results and observations of the cracking behavior of several thick high strengthreinforced concrete plates conducted in the present study, questioned the variation of the crackwidth in between the adjacent longitudinal reinforcing bars, and how to develop a model allowsthe calculation of the crack width at any distance from the longitudinal bar location. An analyticalmodel for estimating the variation of the crack opening along the width of the cross section ofthick reinforced concrete panels subjected to axial loading is developed. This analytical study isextended to investigate the cracking control behavior of deformed bars in thick reinforcedconcrete structures subjected to in-plan axial stresses conditions. The main objective of thisinvestigation is to provide a theoretical basis study for the propagation of cracks and how toensure the control of crack openings in designing of thick high strength reinforced concretestructures subjected to axial stresses.
