In this paper the result of an MSc multidisciplinary project which recently has been done in theTechnical University of Delft with participation of DHV Company is presented. Feasibility study andmethod of design of a touristy artificial island in the North Sea has been carried out in this study.Morphological characteristics, environmental impacts and the physical aspects that need to be taken intoaccount while designing an artificial island are also described in this paper.The selection process and selection criteria of the most favourable shape and cross section arepresented. The MCE Permutation method is used for the selection of the best option and a briefdescription of the method is also explained.Important problems and issues such as cross sections design and sediment transport are furtherdiscussed by using softwares such as Breakwat and CRESS. Finally the appropriate conclusions andrecommendations for design of an artificial island off the Holland Coast are presented.
