摘要

None of the changes in tissue anatomy and mechanical properties that occur in the progression from normal to early experimental glaucoma led to increases in stress, while many led to decreases. The results were less straightforward for LC strain and displacement, where some factors changed the response one way and others the other way. Although most of the biological processes involved are still unknown, these results suggest that elevated IOP may trigger remodeling of the ocular tissues that act to reduce IOP-induced stresses and anterior-posterior displacements. The reductions are achieved by a nonlinear combination of changes in the shape and stiffness of the tissues of the ONH.
