For the sake of recovering phosphorus (P) as regenerative resource from Psaturated alum sludge u used as a low sed low-cost P P-adsorbent in treatment reed bed forwastewater treatment, strong acids (HCl, HNO3, H2SO4) and bases (NaOH,KOH) extractions were performed to release P from the used alum sludge. Theresults showed that either acid or base is efficient and the efficiency mainlyrelied on the concentrations of H+/OH- not the type of acid or base. Under 0.1MH+OH /-, over 90 % P can be released by acids, but only 68 % P can be released by bases within 1 hour. Since the P extraction leachate by H2SO4 is dark dark-red incolor due to the synchronous release of the massive humic substances (HSs),
