摘要

Investigation of progressive damage in stitched composites reveals that transverse cracks in 90° plies initiate earlier and grow at higher density as compared to that of unstitched composites. Such damage behavior was triggered by the compaction effect occurred in the vicinity between two stitch lines. The compaction effect, which causes local increase of fiber volume fraction, is experimentally studied.
