During a ship's life, taking thickness measurements of the hull structure is a mandatory part of periodical class surveys. Once the measurements have been taken, they are to be checked against requirements resulting from the applicable rules of the class society. While a check of corrosion margins is rather straight-forward, more advanced solutions are needed for ships built according to Common Structural Rules. The paper presents a tool for recording, visualization, assessment, and reporting of thickness measurements based on a 3D product model of the vessel where readings can be defined freely on the ship's geometry by only location and measured thickness value. Linking the readings to geometry and function of a structural system provides the basis for advanced assessments. The tool also helps to identify and report parts to be repair quickly, providing detailed input about amount and location to planning of steel repairs.
