Product Model, which CIM project Japan pointed out, has been realized in production design only to define pieces. However, basic and detailed designer could not express his design intention to others in the model hence new project was started to divide the model into "Design Model" and "Production Model". As a result of our analysis, Design Model, which is the designer's imagination is not restrained and enables him to quickly carry out Design Spiral, required 52 improvements for 3 dimensional cad systems. With Nupas-Cadmatic, the significant 15 have been developed and inspected in real design. With this project, it was confirmed that Design Model could change the design process. Quickly constructed complete Design Model gives possibility for optimization of whole ship data and makes designers free from making drawings and concentrates his attention to achieve optimal design, which is very close to an ideal method of design, we believe.
