In this paper we describe an innovative tool for the integral management of both P&I diagrams and electrical schematics coordinated and consistent with a 3D CAD model. We will explain how, combining a modern and intuitive graphic user interface, three different environments and an exhaustive set of 2D drafting tools, ship's diagrams and schematics can be easily and gradually populated as the design evolves, from basic symbols to complete logical and functional definition of systems. We will also show how all that information incorporated into diagrams and schematics is made immediately reusable for the definition of the ship's 3D model, and -probably the best feature of all- how the 2D-3D or diagram-model coherency can be permanently checked and guaranteed. The new tool also provides full change and access control and ready-to-use integration with PLM and other management systems.
