This paper analyzes whether airport management model affects airport quality. Weconstruct a database of 114 international airports worldwide that includes data onperceived quality by users (passengers and entrepreneurs), institutional aspects ofairport policy and management by countries, and private participation in airports,among others. Estimations show that airports with greater decentralization of airportpolicy and management, as well as those in private ownership, increase the perceivedquality and the likelihood of improving the quality of them. Regards to characteristicsof each airport infrastructure, greater number of terminals, greater quality perception,although the distance to the center of the city of origin is not a relevant factor for thisevaluation. Our findings are consistent with the thesis derived from the literaturereview, by sustaining that privatization and decentralization yield to better outcomes,but in our case from the point of view of the quality perceived by users.
