EFFECTS OF PROCESS PARAMETERS ON ROLLED PRECURSOR FOR ALUMINUM FOAM SANDWICH

The small size preforms of aluminum foams sandwich panel were prepared by a powder rolling method using the powders of AlSil2 alloy, Mg and TiH_2 as raw materials. Effects of foaming temperature and time on rolled foamable sandwich panel were investigated in details using SEM, OM analysis and a scanner at a resolution of 300 dpi. The results show that deformation of Al face sheet of the aluminum foams sandwich panel completely disappears. Furthermore, the local melting of Al face sheet can also be hardly found. The bonding between Al face sheet and foam core is good. No macro and micro defects exist in the cell structures and 225% of the expansion rate is achieved. The metallurgical bonding between Al face sheet and foam core can be absolutely obtained as the optimum foaming process of the small size preforms are guaranteed,viz., foaming temperature is 700°C and the range of foaming time is between 90 and 120 seconds.
