Taboo is a complicated ubiquitous cultural phenomenon existing in human society, and it is greatly influenced by cultures.Taboos in different cultures not only share some similarities but also have many differences, which make it necessary for language learners to have some knowledge of these taboos in different cultures in order to achieve effective, successful and harmonious cross-cultural communication.This paper discusses the differences between Chinese and English linguistic taboos from the perspectives of social life.It aims at helping English learners improve their ability of crosscultural communication and achieve better communicational effects.
