Objective: To study the different quiet metabolic rates in men during exhaustive exercise in energy etabolism, substrate metabolism characteristics and differences. Methods: a clustering method to 16 subjects were divided into two groups-quiet high and low metabolic rates, using power bike for increasing load exhaustive exercise, using gas collection method for the determination of energy metabolism results. Results: in the whole course of exhaustive exercise and exhaustive load stage, two groups of energy metabolism and substrate metabolism differ significantly ( P<0.05or P<0.001 ). Quiet high and low metabolic rates in two groups of subjects in the 100W load of fat oxidation and energy supply reach the maximum value, 7.6 mg/ min/ kg and 6.4mg/ min/ kg respectively. In the exhaustive exercise, the two groups of subjects showed no statistical differences in maximum fat and sugar consumption involved in energy supply time and total time ,but showed significant differernces in fat and energy supply time in comparison with the total time (P<0.05). The two groups of subjects of substrate metabolism (glucose and fat) and energy percentage in medium-sized and small intensity (100W, 150W, 200W) load showed significant difference (P<0.05).With the same load, the subjects in the lower goup showed slightly higher energy consumption than the other group. Conclusion: In the exhaustive exercise.different quiet metabolic rate subjects leads to energy metabolism and substrate metabolism in the presence of certain difference. Quiet high rates of metabolic group of subjects with maximum fat consumption value is higher than the low group, but the load stage is the same. The quiet high rates of metabolic groups of subjects' fatty oxidation, aerobic exercise capacity is relatively strong,but glucose consumption for energy dependence of the quiet low metabolic rate subjects in exhaustive exercise on is relatively large.
