摘要

While numerous efforts are ongoing to improve our understanding of the potential health and safety issues posed by engineered nanoparticles (ENP), most of the studies have involved in vitro and laboratory animal research. These studies have the well-established limitations and uncertainties associated with extrapolation to human health risks. There are, at present, no available epidemiology studies examining potential ENP exposures and adverse health effects among either workers or consumers In addition, there is a general deficiency of human clinical studies for controlled exposures to ENP. Thus, a strong need exists for human data on ENP exposures and associated health risks. Although ENP are of recent origin, various kinds of nano-sized particles have been present throughout human history.
