This paper describes the development of a design procedure for post-tensioned timber gravity frames. Post-tensioned timber frames are capable of achieving long spans, while reducing member depth. Within the design procedure the beam-column connection stiffness forms an essential component. It influences the deflections of beams and bending moment distributions in the frame. Experimental testing has given insight into the different deformation components and resulted in stiffness values for a post-tensioned connection. These experimental derived stiffness values have been used for a detailed analysis of a post-tensioned timber frame. Several simplifications in the design are possible and influences on the design are shown. The design procedure will be verified by future full-scale frame tests with one and two bays subjected to gravity loading.
