In the present paper, equilibrium adsorption isotherm data generated in the temperaturerange of 288-318 K are reported for the adsorption of Aniline (AN), Phenol (P), 4-chlorophenol(CP) and 4-nitrophenol (NP) from aqueous solution onto granular activated carbon (GAC).Adsorption of these adsorbates onto GAC was found to be favourably influenced by an increase intemperature. The dispersion force between the π-electrons of GAC and the π-electrons in AN, P, CPand NP molecules is the main adsorption mechanism. The adsorption behavior of AN, P, CP andNP strongly depends upon the intrinsic molar volume ( V_I ), thus, steric effect has strong influenceon observed adsorption coefficients values. This study also shows that hydrogen bonding betweenthe adsorbates and the GAC plays an important role in the adsorption behavior.
