Objectives: The aim of the study was to explore an ingredient which can modulate the uric acid concentration in hyperuricemic rats. Methods: In the present investigation, three natural active ingredients, astaxanthin, apple polyphenols and gypenoside, were taken into the experiments to make a screening which could modulate the concentration of uric acid in rats effectively. After two weeks of administrating the three kinds of ingredients respectively, the samples of serum were collected and the serum uric acid was assayed.Results: The results of the determination indicated that gypenoside could significantly decrease uric acid and blood urea nitrogen concentration in serum of hyperuricemic rats comparing with those in model group, while astaxanthin and apple polyphenols could not The rats of the gypenoside group could excrete much more uric acid in 24-hours urine than those in the model group. Conclusions: Gypenoside could reasonably modulate the concentration of uric acid in hyperuricemic rats.
