Semi-continuous metals monitoring allows for the collection of an incredibly robust dataset in a matter of weeks or months. EPA Region is using the Xact 625 instrument to characterize community exposures to lead and the full list of metallic hazardous air pollutants. Deployment near multiple metallurgic facilities is providing valuable information about the processes contributing to local manganese exposures. EPA intends to deploy the Xact trailer to investigate possible Pb-NAAQS violations and elevated manganese issues at multiple facilities, including battery manufacturers, steel plants, and metallic parts recyclers.
