The reliability of reinforced concrete (RC) overhanging beams designed per the current Canadian concrete design code, CSA A23.3-04, is evaluated considering combined shear force and bending moment. A modified compression field theory (MCFT)-based procedure is implemented to predict the shear-moment interaction diagram of the critical cross section in the overhanging beam. The statistical parameters of the coupled shear-moment resistance are evaluated by incorporating the MCFT-based procedure in the Monte-Carlo simulation. The first-order reliability method (FORM) is employed to evaluate the reliability indices of the overhanging beams based on the statistics of the shear-moment resistance and load effects. The calculated reliability indices are compared with the selected target reliability index to examine the adequacy of the design provisions specified in CSA A23.3-04.
