The runway configuration and orientation must be suitable for the shape of available land;;safely separating from existing obstructions;;and less environmental impacts to residential areas;;butmost importantly it must satisfy the operational requirements of aircraft for landing and takeoff. Forthe safety of Aircraft maneuvering;;runways must be oriented in the direction of prevailing winds.Standards of the ICAO and the FAA agree that the usability factor of a single runway should be notless than 95%;;or crosswind runway is needed. The methodologies;;which are used to determine thebest runway orientation;;include Wind Rose method;;FAA computer programs;;AutoCAD basedalgorithm and GIS based Wind Rose Model. Of course;;the later approaches did improve runwayorientation optimization problems;;in terms of automation and preciseness. But most ofmethodologies focused on solving graphical problems of Wind Rose partial coverage. Some arelimited on specific wind data format;;no flexibility on deferent airport reference codes;;visual meanon determining the percentage;;or pre-set direction to repeatedly try out the optimal orientation.This paper presents a method for the determination of airport runway orientation by developing themathematical formulas into spreadsheet and Visual Basics algorithm to activate repeatedlycalculations. Instead of solving graphical problems inside the Wind Rose plate;;this paper solves the probability of the allowable crosswind with the right angle component of the wind speed group. Themodel precisely solves and simultaneously provides a group of optimum orientation. The model issuccessful solve for the optimum runway orientation and also potential for two-runway orientations.
