摘要

Data envelopment analysis (DEA) measures the relative efficiency of decision making units (DMUs)with multiple/single input and multiple/single outputs. DEA-based Malmquist productivity indexmeasures the productivity change over time. This paper reviewed the DEA-based Malmquist approachand then used the proposed approach to reveal patterns of productivity change in the Airline Industryduring the special period which involved September 11 events. The DEA based Malmquistproductivity measures productivity index will be decomposed into two basic components: one ismeasuring the technical change and the other measuring the technological changes. By using theMalmquist approach;;the patterns of productivity change of each airline during the sample period willbe revealed. The approach also presents a new interpretation with the managerial implication of eachcomponent and whether the changes are feasible or not. The proposed approach will be illustratedwith financial data of selected airline companies and their productivity will be analysed and presented.The approach is illustrated with a set of ICAO database airline in 2001 and 2002.
