Radar pulses are typically generated with an Arbitrary Waveform Generator (AWG). Highest speed AWG nowadays offer modulation bandwidths up to several GHz. Beside the large modulation bandwidth, radar pulse generation require very long playtimes. Ideally, the playtime shall be unlimited. Arbitrary Waveform Generators typically offer a large variety of functionality such as large sample memory combined with setting up complex sequences and scenarios to extend the playtime. While this approach can significantly extend the playtime, there are two major limitations to this approach: First the playtime is still limited. Second the sequence of radar pulses is predefined. This means that the radar pulse generation cannot be adapted to react on changes in the environment. A well known approach to overcome both limitations is to stream radar pulses to the Arbitrary Waveform Generator. The stream of radar pulses can be generated in real time or might be pre-calculated and played back from a storage device such as a Raid system or a Solid State Drive (SSD). Also, a capture, modify and playback operation to alter radar pulses requires to stream data to an AWG.
