摘要

This paper details the virtualization a digital global sharing project of the historical mansion of John and Mable Ringling’s mansion at the Ringling Museum of Art of Sarasota undertaken by University of South Florida’s Institute for Digital Exploration. Better known as Ca'd’Zan, Ringling’s mansion is one of the most important cultural heritage sites in Florida and a landmark in the Tampa Bay area. The virtualization project was inspired by a series of open issues orbiting around the house-museum, as cyclical threats of seasonal hurricanes, limited accessibility of the complex, poor digital presence and restoration problems. Against this picture, the IDEx team accomplished the overall virtualization of the mansion employing terrestrial laserscanning (TLS) and aerial digital photogrammetry, disseminating the results among the global public and designing a customized sharing platform.
