This paper presents the use of a FEM simulation technique to predict the long-term behavior of an abutment slope in the area of the Cuyahoga 90 Central Viaduct Bridge that was previously stabilized with the structure elements of drilled shafts and rock anchors. Monitoring of the sensors (strain gages, load cells, and inclinometer casings) provided baseline data for calibrating the soil parameters. FEM predictions of the future 75 years slope behavior help highway agency to determine proper course of action for the planned bridge expansion project.
