This study investigated the characterization and photo-oxidation of TiO_2 and the modified TiO_2 prepared by using the hydrothermal method. The characterization results showed that the SEM and XRD of WO_3/TiO_2, ZrO_2/TiO_2 and V_2O_5/TiO_2 were the same as the TiO_2's. The UV-visible adsorption of the modified TiO_2 presented obvious red-shift compared to TiO_2, which illustrated that the modified TiO_2 could adsorb more visible light. The character of photo-oxidation above 100°C was the adsorption efficiency decreased as temperature rose. The 100% of TiO_2 at 100°C decreased to 30% at 160°C which inhibited the application at high temperatures. Compared with TiO_2, l%WO_3/TiO_2 could promote the 30% efficiency at 140°C and 160°C, which indicated that it's worth preparing for cost reduction. However, to increase WO_3 such as 3% WO_3/TiO_2 and 5%WO_3/TiO_2 would decrease the adsorption efficiency adversely. The removal of Hg~0 by V_2O_5/TiO_2 was influenced by thermal oxidation and photo-oxidation. The efficiency due to photo-oxidation following thermal oxidation were enhanced. However, the thermal oxidation efficiency of V_2O_5/TiO_2 exceeded the photo-oxidation efficiency at 140°C and 160°C, suggesting that the irradiation is harmful of V_2O_5/TiO_2 to removal Hg~0. The addition of ZrO_2 didn't enhance the photo-oxidation of TiO_2.
