摘要

As a lifestyle region, Metro Vancouver has great potential for widespread conversion to EV technology. Local governments recognize the air quality and climate change benefits of moving away from internal combustion engines and in the past two years have made significant strides in facilitating uptake of EV technology. Key to this success has been partnerships. Partners in this work include the Provincial Government of British Columbia, member municipalities, environmental non-government organizations, and private sector EV charging hosts. A critical success factor has been the availability of funding from the Provincial Government. The Province has been offering point of sale rebates on vehicles, and planning and infrastructure grants on chargers. These funds have catalyzed action by bringing parties together to take advantage of them. Unfortunately, Provincial grants are currently scheduled to end March 31, 2014. Only time will tell if enough momentum was built by them to ignite a successful market transformation.
