摘要

An extended depth of focus is obtained by shaping the input field at the lens. The appropriate pupil functions are found with an optimization algorithm that uses the Extended Nijboer-Zernike theory. An outcome of the algorithm has been demonstrated experimentally. Applications may be found in for example microscopy.
