Digital watermarking has emerged as the one of the burning research topic during last few years for copyright protection and data authentication. This paper reviews the watermarking techniques on the basis of application & characteristics of watermarking. This paper also provides a performance analysis of spatial domain watermarking techniques and the effect of different types of noise (Salt-and-pepper, Gaussian) on the basis of various performance measures.
