After completion in 1941, Grand Coulee Dam was the largest concrete structure on earth and the largest power generating facility. Grand Coulee Dam is located on the Columbia River which 1,243 miles long with a drainage basin of 250,000 square miles draining water from Canada and parts of 7 states: Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah and Nevada. Of the 14 dams on the main stem of the Columbia River and over 400 dams in the Columbia River Basin, Grand Coulee Dam is the largest and "Mightiest of the Them All".
