Experimental Study on Factors Influencing Isolation Effects of Isolation Piles Subjected to Surcharge Load

The paper aims at analyzing the factors, which contain length and diameter of isolation piles, pile spacing and the distance S_1 between isolation piles and settlement-reducing piles, influencing isolation effects of isolation piles under surcharge load. The results summarized by eight laboratory model tests show that the maximum axial force and bending moment of settlement-reducing piles tends to decrease with the increasing length or diameter of isolation piles or with the declining the pile spacing. Meantime, the enough length of isolated piles plays a significant role in diminishing the bending moment. And the isolation effects of axial force and moment can be neglected when pile spacing reaches 8D. That apart, the isolation effects for axial force could be enhanced while diminishing the distance S_1. However, impacts on the moment isolation effects are not significant subjected to the variation of distance S_1. This investigation could provide a good reference to the design and application of isolation piles.
