This paper presents a review of previous work within the field of spacecraft electromagnetic docking, including dynamics and control. In addition, several novel control approaches which considering these electromagnetic force characteristics are derived. The inter-craft force characteristics and its effect on dynamic modeling of spacecraft docking, the coupling between electromagnetic force and relative position/attitude, the uncertainty of electromagnetic force/torque far-field model and the control capability insufficiency are theoretically analyzed and simulated. And, a novel controller which integrates Artificial Potential Field method, Lyapunov stability theory and Extended State Observer is designed and analyzed.
