1. Sealing the edges is an option for prolonging the life of the adhesive at the piece edges. It is recommended by material manufacturers for specific situations. 2. The US Navy has required that all exterior pieces and some interior pieces be edge sealed. 3. The US Navy should review their requirement for the following reasons: 3.1 The current approved edge sealing compound is flammable and high VOC 3.2 Only applying the material to very specific situations and minimizing use will immediately reduce VOC emissions, HAZMAT storage, and costs 3.3 The application is a slow process and increases cost of contracted application. 3.4 Having to secure areas while edge sealer cures reduces some of the advantages of using P&S nonskid.
