In many applications, software defined and cognitive receivers (SDRs and CRs) can be attacked by extremely strong jamming signals (JSs) capable not only of desensitizing but even damaging their input circuits. A method of two-stage spatial suppression of such JSs was proposed earlier by the authors. The method protects the input circuits of SDRs and CRs with antenna arrays and provides a high quality of signal reception. This paper further investigates the proposed method and demonstrates its potential. Different arrangements of the arrays' subarrays are examined, the method compatibility with beamforming and diversity combining is discussed, various geometries of the arrays are analyzed, and the use of small arrays for this method realization is considered.
