This paper presents an optimum solution for field deployment for off-grid renewable energy based single phase power generation using a 3-phase self excited induction generator (SEIG). While several topologies of 3-phase SEIG to feed single phase loads are discussed in the literature, it is essential to study all possible configurations to arrive at best possible solution for given application, to have an acceptable power quality across the load. Hence, the paper addresses this problem. Analytical methodology is presented to predict the performance of the system under different configurations. Detailed experimental and computed results of the performance are presented for a comparative analysis to identify the best topology. It is found that a simple topology can be favorably employed for three phase SEIG for supplying single phase loads driven by nearly constant speed prime movers such as biogas engines, thus making many other reported topologies unviable.
