P300 event-related potential is an electroencephalographic (EEG) signal of the brain in feedback to oddball events. Brain computer interfaces (BCIs) that use the P300-event related potentials are known as P300-BCI systems which provide an alternate communication channel between human brains and machines, with key objective to provide communication abilities to the handicapped. In this work, we present symbols based P300 paradigm to control a smart home environment. A user not only can control any home appliance but also type using the signals generated by the brain. We used a random forest classifier for classification of the P300-event related potentials and tested it with three subjects, with a successful average accuracy of 87.5%.
