Allegheny County was designated nonattainment of the 2012 annual PM_(2.5) NAAQS. The CAMx PGM was applied for a 2011 "base case" annual period using a 36/12/4/1.33 km resolution grid structure designed to simulate both regional (e.g., continental U.S.) and local (e.g., Liberty-Clairton area) contributions to PM2.5 concentrations. The CAMx PiG subgrid-scale Lagrangian puff model was used to treat local source primary PM emissions. The model reproduced the observed concentrations at Liberty well, albeit with an overestimation tendency of the lowest observed values. The estimate of the observed contributions of local sources at the Liberty monitoring site is also reproduced well by the model, eliminating the need to conduct AERMOD local source modeling. Current efforts include performing 2021 future year CAMx modeling that will be used to project 2021 PM2.5 Design Values in an attainment demonstration.
