Over the last 15 years applying petrophysical rock types to understand reservoir storage and flow properties has become an industry standard. However, the challenge is selecting and validating a method to determine petrophysical rock types and understanding the components of the workflow.Fundamentally, petrophysical rock types (PRTs) have become a standard for input to saturation height modeling and three dimensional (3D) reservoir characterization models. The goal of using PRTs is to distribute initial water saturation, determine hydrocarbon volumes, hydrocarbon-water contacts, confirm a free water level and evaluate various uncertainties.
