Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technology applied on optical networks-on-chip (ONoCs) is an effective way to level up network comprehensive performance. However, four-wave mixing (FWM) come with it and introduces extra nonlinear crosstalk noise. Insertion loss, linear and nonlinear crosstalk noise are three principal factors that constrain network performance and scalability. The gist of this paper lies in exploring the insertion loss, crosstalk noise, and optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) of arbitrary MxN WDM-based torus ONoCs with WDM-based optimized crossbar (WOPC) and crux (WCX) optical routers. Simulation results show that when input signal power is 0dBm under the worst case, the network size can reach 6×5 and the average OSNR, signal power and crosstalk noise power are 1.2dB, -32.6dBm and -33.8dBm using WCX routers.
