A Study on Television Metadata Generation Process by Pro-Audience

摘要

The purpose of this study is to analyze the generation process of television metadata on a commercial base. This study introduces the focused ethnography and observation of cases of the metadata. A decade ago, typically, the broadcast archive consisted of movies and indexes and metadata. Afterwards, additional text information on TV programs called “post metadata” appeared around the broadcasting industry in Japan. This study focuses on the metadata generation process in which contents of program are not only monotonously recorded in text, but also information based on needs is selectively recorded in text format with certain rules and ethical standards. There is a kind of knowledge filter in the generation process based on manual works by pro audience.
