In order to trigger a controlled global buckling to release the axial compressive stress, design/installation methods, such as snaked-laid pipeline, are designed and taken into practice. The snaked-lay treatment changes the configuration of the pipeline from straight to zigzag, making the peak of the curved section to move lateral in a controlled manner. This paper presents numerical simulations of the snaked-laid pipeline and the straight-laid pipeline to analyze the buckling behavior of the different pipeline designs of the two pipelines. In this paper, we tried to find the benefit of snaked laid pipeline configuration by comparing to normal laid imperfect pipeline. According to the comparison of the post-buckling results between the snaked-laid pipeline and the straight-laid pipeline, the snaked-laid pipeline can trigger global buckling at a lower axial force level and reduce the disadvantageous factor towards the pipeline safety.
