This study examines the evolution of the influence of opinion leaders on social networking sites. Based on the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method and the latent variable growth model, a theoretical framework for explaining the evolution of influence of opinion leaders is established. Moreover, with the representative of Zhihu.com as a social networking site, an empirical test was conducted on 25,559 users of Zhihu.com. The results of empirical analysis show that there is a significant difference in the evolution of influence among opinion leaders of different influence levels and for opinion leaders of the same level of influence, the evolution of their influence is with distinct characteristics. Finally, based on the research results obtained, suggestions for optimizing the operation of social networking sites are proposed.
