A Model to Mitigate Session Hijacking Attacks in Wireless Networks

The vulnerabilities that exists in the design of IEEE 802.11 standard is an open door for various attacks such as session hijacking. A session hijacking attack is an exploitation of a valid network session where an attacker takes over a session of victim through masquerading as the authorized user. Many studies for addressing session hijacking attacks exist. However, majority of the techniques proposed in those studies produce lots of false positives and false negatives while some introduce more overhead of resources. This paper introduces the hybrid method, which is a triangulation three techniques: received signal strength (RSS), round trip time (RTT), and de-authentication frames analysis (DFA). Experiments were performed for evaluating the proposed hybrid model. The results of the experiment demonstrated that our proposed SHA mitigation hybrid model holds promise in terms of improving accuracy and efficiency.
