Minimising Black Hole Attacks to Enhance Security in Wireless Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

At the turn of the new millennium there has been a couple of technological advancement in computing. One of the notable changes was the paradigm shift from the traditional wired networking to wireless networking due to the low cost associated with wireless networking. Mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is a type of wireless network that does not need any existing infrastructure for it to be operational. Security is one of the problem associated with the MANET network because nodes leaving and joining arbitrarily at any time and this jeopardise on the security of the network as some malicious nodes can advertise as possible nodes available for routing data packets to the destination node(s) and these malicious nodes eventually result in denial of service attacks. This research has come up with a solution for reducing collaborative black hole attacks in wireless networks. Simulations using Network Simulator version 2.35 (NS2.35) simulator tool has been done for the proposed Secure AODV routing protocol and results have been presented and compared against other routing protocols. The simulation results show that the proposed solution performs in terms of packet delivery ratio and average end-to-end delay relative to other routing protocols.
