Possible mission concepts for a Venus lander include a passive landing gear system that dissipates the lander's kinetic energy during the landing event. In order to demonstrate the performance of a metallic honeycomb crushable that could be integrated into the landing system of a Venus lander, high temperature and pressure drop tests are performed. Accelerometer data is used to quantify the performance of the crushable under different conditions, and is used to relate the observed performance of the crushable to the predicted material degradation at elevated temperatures.
