摘要

The Economic development and progress of any nation needs the required power infrastructure and also it's very crucial. The demand in the requirement of power has been steadily increasing due to population growth but the growth has been rapid lately. This growing demand is mostly covered by the fossil fuels which is the major producer of harmful Green House Gases (GHG). In order to reduce GHG emission and to develop efficient and reliable ways to harness energy, renewable sources can be viewed as one of the best possible alternatives. The main aim of the power producers should be to develop smart and sustainable energy systems for the country. This paper documents the current status in the Indian power sector and the growing trend of renewables in India along with role of private power producers. This paper also reviews the major operations and contribution of private power producers in the power sector.
