There have been diverse issues in the field of VANETs which grabbed the attention of the researchers to further analyze the intensity of the issues. One such pioneer issue was the delivery of the warning messages to the vehicles which is present in Non Line of Sight (NLOS) region. The major problem that must be taken into account is channel contention which must be considered in congested environment. So, there is major setback to researchers for designing an effective localization algorithm to broadcast the emergency message to the vehicles which is in NLOS by improving the data delivery rate, minimizing delay and increased channel utilization. Many researchers have focused on the optimization methodologies which are found to satisfy the requirements and it is found to be an effective way to localize the nodes. This paper focuses on the various meta-heuristic methodologies devised by the researchers in localization. It also makes a brief comparison of the meta-heuristic approaches used for localizing and their advantages and demerits.
