In order to avoid the energy-hole or hotspot problem in a Wireless Sensor Network, a portable sink is utilized to gather information from the sensor nodes by navigating the system intermittently. A portable sink might be permitted to visit just a restricted number of sensor nodes, alluded as Rendezvous Points (RP) and rest of the sensor nodes send their information to the closest Rendezvous Point so as to avoid the postponement acquired by visiting all the sensor nodes. Thus, it is very important to determine an optimal set of RP in order to enhance the information gathering procedure of the sink and furthermore expand the lifetime of the WSN. However, it is very complex to locate the ideal set of RP when the sensor nodes generate information unevenly. This paper puts forward a new Intelligent Water Drops (IWD)-based mobile sink route determination mechanism for the WSN system. This algorithm aims at boosting up the lifetime of the network and minimizing the network energy consumption in forwarding the data packets. In the proposed algorithm, a productive mechanism has been devised based on the behaviour of Intelligent Water Drops so as to find an ideal arrangement of Rendezvous Points (RP) and the mobile sink's routing path. This also permits the re-selection of RP from time to time to balance the system's energy as the weights of the nodes keep changing due to uneven data production. Superiority of the proposed algorithm has been observed when its performance is compared with similar existing approaches.
