In this work, the results of an energy audit performed on a wall mounted instant water boiler operating at the Engineering Building of the Central University of Technology is presented. The aim of the project is to identify potential periods when energy is wasted in order to contribute to the reduction of the total electricity consumption. For this purpose, a single-phase Energy Wireless Electricity Monitor and data logger was installed in the staff room of the BHP Billiton building to monitor the operation of the water boiler. The results reveal that significant amount of energy is wasted during holidays, weekends, nights and early mornings. Given the number of wall mounted water boiler operating on the CUT premises, this presents a big opportunity in reducing the University's electricity cost by applying proper energy conservation measures when no service is required.
