Abstract: We propose a concept for a space mission designed tomake a survey of potential zodiacal dust disks aroundnearby stars in the mid-IR. We show that a 10-meterbaseline nulling interferometer with two 0.6-meterapertures located in a 1 $MUL 1 AU heliocentric orbitwould allow for the survey of about 400 stars in thesolar neighborhood and permit a first orderdetermination of the disk inclination and of the dustdensity and temperature radius dependence. The highdynamic range of the instrument may also be used tostudy an additional astrophysical phenomena. Beyond itsown scientific merit, such a mission would also serveas a technological precursor to a larger interferometerof the type being considered for the detection ofearth-like planets. !13
