Development of Corrosion Resistant Steel for Cargo Oil Tank of Crude Oil Tanker

In response to the corrosion problems of cargo oil tank of crude oiltanker, corrosion resistant steel for bottom plate has been developedthat suppresses the macro galvanic corrosion between the defect andthe intact of oil coat by forming protective corrosion products andreduces the growth of pitting corrosion. In addition, corrosion resistantsteel for upper deck has been developed that suppresses the permeationof corrosive species in the rust layer by forming protective corrosionproducts and reduces general corrosion. In the actual crude oil tank,developed corrosion resistant steel for bottom plate reduced the numberof pits at 4mm or more in depth compared to the conventional steel. Inaccordance with the establishment of IMO regulations, corrosionresistant steel for bottom plate satisfying regulated corrosion resistanceand mechanical properties of AH/DH 32/36 grades was newlydeveloped. In addition, corrosion resistant steel for upper decksatisfying regulated corrosion resistance and mechanical properties ofAH/DH/EH 32/36/40 grades was developed.
