Conformal rudder is a kind of submarine control surface composed of afixed fin and a rotatable rudder. The open water performance ofconformal rudder was studied by model test and numerical calculation.It is found that lift coefficient increase with chord ratio and aspect ratio.The lift-drag ratio increases with chord ratio at small angle of attack butdecrease at large deflection angle. Although the gap between the fin andthe rudder is very small, it still has a major impact on the hydrodynamicperformance, and the hydrodynamic performance improved significantlyafter sealing the gap.
